Group Facilitation

Facilitation, what exactly is that?

A way of making collaboration within a group of people a little easier.

It's about supporting a group of people as they:

 • navigate through a situation,
 • listen to each other,
 • bring clarity to assumptions,
 • understand challenges and barriers,
 • make decisions,
 • create action plans to implement their own decisions,
 • and safely discuss differences in perspectives

The art lies in defining the process to be used for the conversations, running the workshop / meeting / session including managing group dynamics, and leaving the actual content of the discussion for the participants to define on their own. The approach is always tailored to the needs of the given group.

Facilitation Process

Cocreating your experience
1) Understanding your Needs
1) Understanding your Needs
All great accomplishments start with a given set of circumstances, an idea, and a small group of people willing to explore it

 • Understanding your context (what's going on?)
 • Discussing your goals, objectives, and desired meeting outcomes (e.g. list of ideas, decision, agreement, action plan, etc.)
 • Identifying who will participate in the meeting
2) Understanding your Group
2) Understanding your Group
Over time, every group develops an identity, based on a shared history as well as a common set of behavioral norms and expectations

 • Understanding your group's history together
 • What are the interpersonal dynamics within your group?
 • What decisions are the participants empowered to make at this meeting?
 • What explicit behavioral norms would be useful for this meeting?

3) Designing the Meeting / Workshop
3) Designing the Meeting / Workshop
Stories are at the essence of human communication
Every great musical piece, film, or play ever produced had a script with different acts that combined to tell the story

 • Designing the meeting agenda and its phases
 • Validation and approval of the design
4) Preparations
4) Preparations
Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance

 • Preparing the workshop materials and documents
 • Addressing all those little details that make for great experiences
5) Workshop
5) Workshop

This is where the magic happens
Where you and your group explore the ideas that matter to you
Where you commonly define the next steps in your success story
